The Society

The Global & Transnational Law Society is about bringing together legal experts on the topic of Global Law. Through this organisation, leading scholars from European and Canadian universities intend to spark interest and create an open discussion forum to better understand global legal issues.

Taking different ways through the intersection of social, political, economic and cultural issues deriving from globalisation and applying them to law, the founding members of the Society, Professors Karim Benyekhlef, Gregory Lewkowicz, Benoît Frydman and Nicolas Levrat, wish to challenge the conservative boundaries of State law to imagine broader legal sources. The Université de Montréal, the Université libre de Bruxelles and the Université de Genève combine their resources in this objective.

Seeking to facilitate the dialogue between interdisciplinary scholars, the Society plans to create a community through a series of events and tools available on its website. A discussion among experts in international and domestic legal regimes, information technologies, macroeconomics, anthropology and other disciplines bears interest in the understanding of new forms of law extracted from globalization.
